Hi, I'm Ms. Troy Coleman, founder of PurposeFul Play Learning Academy.
For more than 15 years, I've dedicated my career to helping children grow academically, emotionally, and confidently. Throughout my journey as an educator and literacy interventionist, I've learned one simple truth: every child can learn to read when they're given the right instruction, encouragement, and opportunity.
PurposeFul Play Learning Academy was created to provide families with an engaging, evidence-based approach to literacy that meets children where they are and helps them become confident, successful readers.
My Journey
Before founding PurposeFul Play Learning Academy, I spent years serving students in classrooms across multiple schools, leading literacy intervention programs, coaching educators, and designing instruction that helped struggling readers make meaningful progress.
As a Texas Designated Exemplary Teacher, I've had the privilege of helping students achieve significant literacy growth by combining the Science of Reading with engaging, purposeful instruction. My experience in both education and mental health has shaped my belief that children learn best when they feel safe, supported, and capable.
Why I Started PurposeFul Play
PurposeFul Play was born from a desire to do more.
I wanted to create a learning environment where children receive personalized support, families feel empowered, and reading instruction is both effective and engaging.
Too many children begin to believe they simply "aren't good at reading." I believe something different.
With the right support, every child has the potential to become a confident reader.
That belief is at the heart of everything we do.
My Approach
At PurposeFul Play Learning Academy, every decision begins with one question:
What does this child need to be successful?
That's why every child begins with a free literacy assessment before instruction starts.
From there, I create personalized learning experiences that combine:
